Cyclists Receive Compensation

Four cyclists have received compensation after being involved in collisions with other vehicles.

John Barnes was knocked off his bicycle when a tractor turned across his path. He suffered a fractured forearm, broken teeth and other injuries. The tractor driver was not insured. However, Mr Barnes was able to make a claim through the Motor Insurers’ Bureau, an organisation set up to compensate the victims of accidents involving negligent drivers who are uninsured or untraceable.

Mr Barnes has now made a full recovery and received compensation for both his injuries and the damage to his cycling equipment.

Malcolm Matcham was cycling around a roundabout when a transit van suddenly pulled out in front of him. In the ensuing collision Mr Matcham was thrown from his bicycle and suffered concussion, soft tissue injuries and damage to his cycling equipment.

The driver's insurers admitted liability and Mr Matcham’s damages claim was agreed.

Phil Houghton was cycling along a High Street in the Peak District, past a row of parked cars. Suddenly, a car that was parked facing the opposite direction to the traffic pulled out in front of him. Mr Houghton was thrown over the handlebars and sustained injuries.

The driver's insurers admitted liability and Mr Houghton received compensation for his injuries.

Matthew Garnett was injured and his bicycle damaged when a motorist pulled out in front of him. He hit the passenger door, but the driver failed to stop. Fortunately, a witness took a note of the driver's registration number and the insurance company was eventually traced. Although the insurers did not admit fault, Mr Garnett was compensated for his losses.
