£7,200 for Faulty Shoe Claim
A student who broke her ankle after one of her high heels snapped has been awarded £7,200 in compensation from the shoe chain Dolcis.
Sophie King, 20, was wearing the £35 pair of shoes for the first time when the accident happened. She was meeting friends for a night out in Manchester and was walking down the tram platform when the heel of her left shoe snapped and she fell over. She tried to carry on with her night out but later fainted and woke up in an ambulance.
X-rays confirmed that Miss King had a broken ankle and she underwent surgery, which involved the insertion of screws into her ankle bones. She was in plaster for several weeks, during which time she was unable to play sports and was forced to leave her job as a waitress.
After the accident, Miss King commenced proceedings against Dolcis claiming that the shoes were faulty. The shoe chain admitted that there was a defect in the manufacture and she was awarded £7,200 in damages.
